Agathiyar was a small build saint with great knowledge..One day he started off from Himalayas to Potthiya Malai. He had a special water jug with him known as Kamandalam(jug used by ascentic). It was filled with water from the Holy River Ganga. For a few days, he rested in Kongu Nadu.

Meanwhile , Indran ,king of the Devas , was frightened of Soorapatman and came down to earth for a while. He was staying in Seerkali and set up a flower garden to perform his daily poojas to Lord Shiva.Knowing this ,Soorapatham called Varunan(God Of Clouds & Rains) and ordered that there should be a no rainfall in Indrans garden. Thus this affected Indran;s garden , there was no flower blooming due to lack of rain and this worried Indran much. Naradan then advised Indran to pray to Pillayar for help.Pillayar then took the form of a crow and pearched on Agathiyars water jug.Agathiyar try to chase the crow off. When the crow flew off, the jug tilted and the water changed into a stream and flow through Indrans garden.

Agathiyar was very angry with the crow and started to chase it.At that time the crow changed into a boy and started to run. Then the crow was no more in sight but in its  place a boy .After Agathiyar couldnt catch the crow and was tired .He rested under a tree. Then Agathiyar saw a boy , the boy halted,Pillayar appeared.Only then the saint released that the crow was the boy ,both are the form of Pillayar. He regretted chasing Lord Pillayar andk knocked on his own head for forgiveness.Pillayar then explained to Agathiyar of Indrans garden and disappeared.
